Imagine walking into a school to help a student with a project, only to realize there is no library. For students in the United States, this would be unthinkable—but in Haiti, school libraries are rare. Most libraries exist in universities or seminaries, leaving younger students without access to books that could ignite their imaginations and expand their knowledge.
Now, picture your own school experience without a library. How would it have shaped your education, your curiosity, or even your dreams?
School leaders in Tarasse and Poteau recognized the power of books and asked HHH to help create school libraries for their students. In 2013, the first library opened in Tarasse, followed by a second in Poteau in 2014. These libraries transformed learning—students marveled at shelves lined with books on science, literature, geography, and playful stories. Teachers embraced this new resource, finding creative ways to enhance lessons. Passionate students even volunteered to be trained as school librarians, taking pride in their role as literacy champions.
Years of eager learning have left these libraries well-loved, and now it’s time to refresh and restock the shelves. Access to books is a critical factor in literacy development, yet for many Haitian students, books remain a scarce treasure. With your help, we can continue fostering a love for reading and learning for the next generation.
Access to books can change lives.
In Haiti, many schools lack the resources they need to foster a love of reading and learning. Every dollar you give brings us closer to our goal of creating and maintaining vibrant libraries that empower Haitian communities.
Keeping things fresh.
Donations toward the library fund will help us buy books to renew and refresh the shelves at HHH partner school libraries. Together, we can share the love of reading and create a brighter future for our students in Haiti.
